Located 27 km from ajmer. Kishangarh, the marble city of India, is home to many places and forts to visit. The historical destination of Rajasthan has a jewel in the form of Kishangarh fort.
Mythology or legend
An interesting story is associated with the construction of the fort. Once, the maharaja saw a dream in which a sheep was protecting her lamb from the wolves. It got the idea of protection and how he can build a building that protects his empire from the outside.
History of Kishangarh fort
Dating back to the 1650s, the fort was constructed by Maharaja Roop Singh of Rathore clan. It was designed in such a way that it is protected by the Gundala Lake in its surroundings. Throughout history, numerous efforts were made to control the fort by different rulers, but the fort remains impermeable.
The lavish lifestyle of the rulers is reflected in the grandeur of Kishangarh Fort. Majestic quarters with well-carved water fountains adorn the exterior of the fort. The interiors have striking murals and frescoes talking about the zenith in the Kishangarh miniature paintings. Kishangarh was one of the main centers of Bani Thani style of painting.
Just outside the fort lies a phool mahal on the bank of Gundala lake.
