History
Established as Edward Museum in 1909, the state museum Bhopal is an important archaeological museum that was later renamed Bhopal Museum and finally became the state museum in 2005 with a newly constructed building.
Architecture
The museum consists of 17 galleries that cover a wide range of subjects including prehistory, fossil, excavated materials, inscriptions, sculptures, textiles, postal stamps, manuscripts, coins, weapons, metal images, and other objects of archaeological and historical significance.
The museum contains paintings from the Bagh caves, statues of Lakshmi, buddha, images of Brahma, Shiva, Vishnu and painting from different schools, and copies of paintings from the Bagh caves. The museum house carving couples from Khajuraho and 87 Jain bronzes that were retrieved from Dhar during the Parmara dynasty.
