Van Vihar National Park, located in Bhopal, is a must-visit place for nature enthusiasts. Declared a national park in 1979, Van Vihar National Park is spread over an area of 4.45 square kilometers. The Central Zoo Authority developed and managed the park. If you are planning to visit the national park, you should include this place in your itinerary list because the lake is situated on the banks of the upper lake and is just 8 km away from Bhopal junction.

Keeping animals closest to their natural habitats

The national park is home to both carnivores and herbivores.  The national park offers visitors the opportunity to observe animals in their natural habitat. Many animals are brought from neighboring states under the scheme of exchange with other zoos. All carnivore animals are kept in enclosed areas, while herbivores roam freely outside.  

A Variety of Wildlife and Bird Species

The adjoining lake enhances the beauty of the park and is also a special home to 200 species of birds that migrate in the migratory season. The national park consists of a variety of animals, including nilgai, panthers, cheetahs, etc. A safari ride is provided by the park management to observe the animal up close. 60 species of butterflies are found in the park. 

Entry Points and Means of Exploration of Van Vihar National Park 

There are two points to enter the Van Vihar National Park – Chickoo Dwar, which is situated at the end of Lake View Road, and Ram Dwar, which is toward the Bhadbhada Bridge/ Prempura Ghat end. The park offers the facility of renting bicycles or electric golf carts from the ticket counter for exploring the park. You can enter with your own vehicle after paying the appropriate fees. The last option is to explore the park on foot although it can consume a lot of time as it’s a 5 km long road.

If you’re coming by car, you can reach Van Vihar National Park via Lake View Road, which is the most popular route. You can also take the Bhadbhada Bridge/Prempura Ghat road to reach the park. The park is approximately 8 km away from Bhopal Junction and can be reached within 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.

train

By Train:

If you prefer traveling by train, Bhopal Junction is the nearest railway station to Van Vihar National Park. It is well-connected to major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai. Once you reach the station, you can hire a taxi or an auto-rickshaw to reach the park. The park is only 8 km away from the railway station, and the journey takes around 20-30 minutes.

By Air:

If you’re traveling from another city or state, you can reach Bhopal by air. Raja Bhoj Airport is the nearest airport to Van Vihar National Park, located about 15 km away. The airport is well-connected to major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore, among others. Once you
