About Madhukeshwara Temple
Madhukeshwara Temple is a Hindu temple located in the oldest city of Banvasi, Karnataka, India. Dedicated to god Shiva, the temple was built in the capital city that was first ruled by the Kadamba dynasty.
Architecture
Madhukeshwara Temple is one of the oldest and main attractions of the city. Inside the garbhgriha of the temple, the Shiva is represented in the form of a honey-coloured Shiva Linga. The Nandi statue inside the temple represents a protector of God Shiva.
The whole temple is made of granite rock with minimal decoration on pillars and walls. During different rules, different structures are added to the temple.
Chalukya added Sankalpa mantapa, whereas Triloka mantapa was constructed during the Hoysala period. This mantapa has beautiful carving on its pillars.
Best time to visit
Kadambotsava, an annual cultural festival organised by the state government in the month of December. During the festival, various folk dance, Yakshangana, and classical music performances are shown to the visitors. So the best time to visit is during the month of December.
