About Ghati Subramanya Temple
Ghati Subramanya Temple is a famous temple located near Doddaballapur. The temple is dedicated to gods Lord Subramanya and Lord Lakshmi Narasimha. Among these, the elder son of Shiva and Parvati, Lord Subramanya is revered as the lord of snakes.
Divine Dichotomy
One of the major attraction point in the temple is the positioning of Lord Subramanya facing east and Lord Lakshmi Narasimha facing west within a single idol.To enhance the spiritual experience, A strategic place mirror is place to help devotees in seeing Lord Narsimha.
Sacred Legends
Legend has it that Ghati is where Lord Subramanya, in serpent guise, performed penance within the mountain caves before annihilating the demon Tharakasura. Additionally, it’s believed that Lord Subramanya sought protection for the serpent clan from Garuda’s threat in this region.
History
History of the Ghati Subramanya Temple spans over 600 years. Built in traditional Dravidian style the temple is a prominent centre for snake worship.
Rituals and Festivities
Pushya Suddha Shasti, Narasimha Jayanthi, Skanda Shasti and Panghuni Uttiram are the major festivals that are celebrated in the temple. Pushya suddha is celebrated on Lord Subramanya’s birthday wheres Panghuni Uttiram is the lord wedding anniversary. There is an intriguing ritual which involves the installation of snake idols around the temple. During this time thousands of devotees , especially the tamil population of karnataka gather to participate.
Timings
To experience the spiritual and divine connection, the doors of the temple is open to the devotees from 7:30 AM to 8 PM every day.
