Lamadugh Trek || Hidden Trek In Manali
Lamadugh Trek(Lamadug trek) is a popular trek in Manali. Yes my favorite hill city, is home to several treks. You can list Beas, Bhrigu, Rana sui, Patalsu, Deo Tibba, Friendship peak, etc all have their basecamp Manali. Lamadugh is also one of the treks of Manali that is not very known among the trekker’s community. Though it has started gaining popularity a few years ago, it is still hidden and not as popular as other treks.
Lamadugh trek starts from Dhungri in old Manali is 2 km from Manali. Dhungri is also home to the famous Hidimba Devi temple. A Pagoda temple of Hidimba Devi, a wife of Bhima, a figure in the Mahabharat epic.
How To Reach
Manali is accessible only through 2 modes of transport either by road or air. By road, It takes 12 hours from the bus and by car, it takes 10 hours from Delhi. Those who are budget travelers like me can look for roadway buses of Himachal ”HRTC” or other state transport from Kashmiri gate in Delhi. It costs around Rs 700 to 800, Volvo also runs but it can cost you around nearly Rs2000. The nearest airport to Manali is Bhuntar airport which is located in Kullu 40 km far from Manali by road. Air ticket prices fluctuate between Rs 10k to 15k and it takes less than 3 hours to reach. It all depends on your budget and how you want to reach Manali.
SoTrek starts from Dhungri village. You should reach this point early at 7:00 am. The earlier you start the more time you have in your pocket to rest on the Lamadugh. Lamadugh is situated at a height of 9,900 feet or 3018 meters and the elevation you gain from Manali to Lamadugh is more than 1,125 m on a single day. The whole trek can be completed in a single day.
Trek Starting Point
From Dhungri, the trek starts at an elevation. The strength of the knees and feet will be tested in this section of the trek. But all the section is a part of the Manali wildlife sanctuary so the tall pine, maple, oak, chestnut, and Deodar trees will keep you amazed through the journey. Beautiful species of birds and flowers will make you lost in the wildness of the sanctuary.
The rock is the first halt point you will come across where you can take a meal and rest for a while. It’s a big piece of rock on which you can stand and see the whole Manali on the left bank of river Beas and the right side of the whole majestic Kullu valley.
Gear up for a steep trek for 3 hours until you reach Lamadugh. As you cover more height you will get mesmerizing views of Indrasan, Deo Tibba, and Bara Shigri glacier(The biggest glacier in Himachal). On the last leg of the trek, you will turn right and enter Lamadugh. It’s a deserted alpine plateau that is home to abandoned small huts and alpine flowers. You can find water here. Remember in all parts of the trek there is no natural waterfall so always carry water with yourself.
After soaking in the time of this beautiful place and admiring its beauty you can descend toward Manali around 3 pm after post-lunch. It will take 2 hours to reach Manali. One more this trek also goes to Rani Sui lake so if you want to cover that place also. So you need one more day. You can book any lamadugh trek and Rani Sui trek from an online website. I hope you find this information beautiful so see you in the next blog, bye!
