About Dorje Drak Monastery
Dorje Drak Monastery is one of the remarkable Bhuddist monasteries that is situated in Kasumpti, Shimla. Also known as TDAC Nyingmapa Monastry, it is 7 km from Shimla Old Bus Stand and 8 km from Shimla Railway.
Showcasing the profound influence of Tibetan culture in the region, the monastery offers a serene sight of monks engaged in meditation. Managed by Tibetan exiles , the monastery has a tranquil ambiance for individuals seeking moments of quiet contemplation.
As a remarkable testament to Buddhist architecture in the Himalayan region, monasteries are affiliated with the Nyingmapa school. It was established under the vision of Kyabje Taklung Tsetrual Rinpoche, who migrated from Tibet in 1959. Following the Chinese invasion of Tibet, the original monastery was built, which was designed in a solid square and rectangular structure. In 1984, after migration from Tibet, Tsetrul Rinpoche erected the monastery in Shimla.
Every year in the month of May, a vibrant and popular hemis festival of Tibet is held to revered Guru Padmasaambhava. During the occasion, the monastery remains open to all visitors. Annually, a myriad of devotees and tourists are drawn to the monastery, while donations are made with the assistance of the monastery.
