About Grave of Barog
The Grave of Barog is a symbol of the dedication and challenges faced during the construction of the narrow-gauge railway. A reminder of a tragic chapter in the history of the Kalka-Shimla Railway that Barog faces
When the work on the Kalka-Shimla railway commenced, Colonel Barog was entrusted with the task of making a tunnel. During that time,to expedite the process, Colonel Barog made a miscalculation, which resulted in the two ends failing to meet. Facing fines and disgrace from the British government, Colonel Barog was not able to handle shame and tragically took his life.
After the incident, H.S. Harrington, chief engineer at the time, took over the task of completing the tunnel. Today, that tunnel is now known as the Barog tunnel. Spanning 1143.61 meters, it’s one of the longest of the 103 operation tunnels on the Shimla-Kalka Railway. It stands as a testament to engineering prowess and redemption in the face of past challenges. Barog station, immediately after the tunnel, marks a symbolic triumph over adversity.
