A Legacy of Ornithology and History
During the tumultuous revolt of 1857, the British officer A.O. Hume sought refuge in Shimla. He made Rothney Castle his residence. Over time, he invested a substantial amount to transform the estate into a captivating castle. He was the father of ornithology and a founding figure in the formation of the Indian National Congress in 1885. A.O Hume’s home served as home to the world’s largest collection of stuffed Asiatic birds, that he later donated to the British museum
