Sankat Mochan Temple, dedicated to Hanuman, is a serene temple that is located in the center of Shimla.
History
Baba Neem Karoro Ji Maharaj, in 1950, found the perfect spot for meditation at Tara Devi.Impressed by the location, Baba desired to be dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Later, the task was taken on by his devoted followers, who constructed the Sankat Mochan temple on June 21, 1966. Including the governor of Himachal Pradesh has helped in the construction of the temple.
Architecture
Today, the temple complex consists of a temple that is primarily dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Inside the temple, the idols of Lord Rama, Shiva, and Ganesha are kept. A special temple for Baba Neem Karoli Ji Maharaj is also dedicated.
The temple complex is a three-story building. The special hall is dedicated to Langer/Prasad Hall. There is an additional South Indian Ganesh temple that adds cultural diversity to the complex.
Festivals
Ram Navami, Dussehra, and Hanuman Jayanti are celebrated with great zeal at the Sankat Mochan temple. It’s the best time to visit the temple and experience its vibrance and spiritual aspect.
