History and Mythology
There is interesting folklore associated with the temple. Once upon a time, there lived a great warrior king, Bhubruvahan, of the Patal Lok.
During Mahabharata times, he came to watch the epic war. Because he was a great warrior, he expressed his desire to participate in the war from the side of Kaurava. But Krishana, who is helping Pandavas, knows Bhubruvahan will defeat Arjuna from the side of Pandavas.Krishana, after giving him some thought, tried to deceive him and gave him a challenge.
Krishna asked Bhubruvahan to prove his superiority with the bow and arrow. In reply, Bhubruvahan happily obliged with the challenge.
Krishana asked him to shoot all the leaves on the trees. But to deceive Bhubruvahan, Krishana kept one leaf under his shoes. But Bhubruvahan’s keen sense of observation didn’t miss that, and the arrow came toward Krishana’s foot.
When Krishana saw an arrow coming toward him, he left the place hastily. After passing the test, Krishana tried to persuade Babruvahan not to participate in the war. He said the war is equal on both sides, and Bhubruvahan should remain neutral.
But Bhubruvahan didn’t agree with this; after all, he was a great warrior, and fighting was his natural instinct.Soatlast, Krishna planned in such a way that Bhubruvahan was beheaded before the start of war.
