History
History of the Fateh Sagar Lake when was constructed by Maharana Jai Singh, who constructed the lake in 1678 AD But it was named after Maharana Fateh Singh. Once upon a time, during a flood, the earthen dam that the lake formed was washed away. In 1888, Maharana Fateh Singh constructed the Connaught Dam to review the lake’s glory. During this time, the son of Queen Victoria was on a visit, so to commemorate the visit, the name of the dam was Connaught Dam, which further led to Fateh Sagar Lake.
Geography of Fateh Sagar Lake
Fateh Sagar Lake spreads over a length of 2.4 km, a width of 1.6 km, and a depth of 11.5 meters. Alongside Fateh Sagar Lake, there are four aquatic landscapes Udai Sagar Lake, Dhebar Lake, and Lake Pichola in the surrounding area. All lakes hold breathtaking views in the gracious city of Udaipur.
