History of Monsoon Palace

Sajangarh Palace was constructed in 1884 AD by the 72nd ruler of the Mewar Dynasty, Maharana Sajjan Singh, from whom the name of the palace is derived. Maharana Sajjan Singh occupied this palace as a resort for the family as well as an astronomical observatory to observe monsoon clouds. But Unfortunately, after his demise, construction of the palace was completed by Maharana Fateh Singh. During hunting expeditions, the palace also served as a hunting lodge for the royal family. 

Boasting High turrets and meticulously crafted towers, Sajangarh Palace is made of white marble. Lime mortar plaster is used in the palace. Leaves and flowers are intricately designed on the marble pillars, which further enhance the palace’s charm. 

The Palace Museum

Offering visitors a captivating journey through history, Monsoon Palace has been converted into a museum. It’s located on the ground floor. The rich cultural heritage of the Mewar dynasty is depicted through a collection of paintings, pictures, and maps. A grand central court with its majestic staircase offers visitors a captivating journey throughout history. 

At a height of 944 meters, Monsoon Palace offers breathtaking vistas of Udaipur city, majestic mountains, lakes, and especially the splendid palace. You don’t want to miss this natural experience, especially the sunset. 

Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary

Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary surrounds the Monsson Palace and creates a harmonious blend of natural wonder and architectural splendor. Originally owned by the Mewar royal family, the Forest Department of Rajasthan owns and manages the sanctuary, which has been opened to the public. 

Practical Information for Visitors

To reach the Monsoon Palace, you can hire an auto-rickshaw or a taxi from Udaipur city. The palace is located approximately 12 km from the Udaipur City Railway Station and 10 km from the City Palace

Entrance fees of Monsoon Palace

Rs 110 is charged to the Indian visitors, while the foreigners pay Rs 300.  If you are arriving by car, the entry fee is Rs 65. These fees ensure the maintenance and preservation of this remarkable historical site.
