Offering a glimpse into the rich history of Rajasthan, Akbar Palace and Museum stand as a popular attraction in Ajmer. The ancient citadel is an architectural masterpiece that was constructed in 1570 AD by the Mugal emperor Akbar. The palace is easily accessible from Ajmer Junction Railway Station and 1.5 km away from Ajmer Dargah Sharif. 

Architectural Grandeur

Surrounded by impressive stone walls that are impregnable and unattackable, the palace serves as the royal abode for Emperor Akabar during his visit and pilgrimages to Ajmer.

A double-story bastion and chain of columns encircle the palace and provide security from any threat. Inside the palace, a central turret leads to a series of rooms that reveal the grandeur of the palace’s interior.  

 It was designed strategically  and served as a place of historical significance. Emperor Jahangir and Sir Thomas Roe, representing the British East India Company, met at this place. 

In 1908, the Akbar palace was converted into a museum showing relics from different eras. It has an impressive collection of weapons. Hindu figures like the black marble idol of Goddess Kali date back to the 6th and 7th centuries. Additionally, a library has a valuable center for acquiring information about Akbar’s palace. Sone sculptures and military armor are other collection of Akbar’s museum

Visiting Information

If you plan to explore Akbar’s Palace and Museum, here is some essential information:

Timings: The palace is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., except on Fridays, when it remains closed.

Light & Sound Show: Visitors can enjoy an enchanting light and sound show held from 7.30 PM to 8.15 PM in English and from 8.30 PM to 9.15 PM in Hindi.

Entry Fee: The entry fee for Indians is Rs. 10, while foreigners are charged Rs. 50. Visitors interested in attending the Light & Sound Show are required to pay Rs. 50.
