Bhagsunag waterfall is one of the most popular waterfalls located in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. The waterfall lies in the Bhagsu/Bhaksu village. Falling from a height of 30 feet from the Dhaudladhar mountain range, the place is 3km from the popular tourist attraction Mcleodganj.
It passes through the famous Bhagsunath temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. The water is stored in a pond, where people usually take baths. A Shiva cafe with a waterfall backdrop provides a moment of peace and serenity.
Bhagsunath temple’s History
According to Indian mythology, once king Bhagsu stole water from Nag Dal Lake. Nag devta got angry and defeated the Bhagsu king. He also cursed him. So inorder to appease the Nag devta communit’y wrath King Bhagsu built the Bhasunath temple.
According to another legend, the shrine was built by the Gorkha community, called Bhagsuwala. This is how Bhagsunath temple is a sacres site shared by the Hindu and Gorkha communities.
