The Botanical garden, spread over acres, is located near the botanical garden metro station, which is at the junction of the magenta and blue line.

The garden was established in April 2002 as part of the Botanical Survey of India, which comes under the Ministry of Environment and Forests. The aim of setting up such a garden is to conserve endangered plant species. Different sections of the garden showcase a variety of plant diversity.

A walking or jogging trail around the perimeter of the garden provides a good avenue for walkers or runners.

The rose garden, cactus garden, and two greenhouses are important spots to watch. 250 varieties of medicinal plants and 7,500 varieties of plants that are endangered are things to watch.
