In south Delhi, the Chattarpur temple attracts a large number of visitors, especially during Navratri. A famous temple dedicated to the goddess Katyayani is a beautiful place to visit.

It has a famous story related to a boy who was orphaned at an early age. He was told by someone that the only real mother who can protect him is the goddess. He started a devotion to Maa Durga and studied under a spiritual master. When he realized what was going on, he became well-known as Bab Sant Nagpal ji.

In order to express his devotion to the goddess, he began construction on the Chattarpur Temple in 1974. The temple was so massive that it was the largest temple until it was surpassed by the Akshardham temple in 2005.

During Navratri

The temple, dedicated to Goddess Katyayani, is open to visitors from 4 a.m. to midnight all year. During the Navratri festival, thousands of people flock to the temple to make offerings. According to the Hindu calendar, seeing the goddess during the nine days of Ashtami is extremely auspicious. To ensure the welfare of people, meals are served to up to 1 lakh devotees during the Navratri festival.

Architecture

The temple is divided into three temple complexes spread across 60 acres. Made from fine marble, temple architecture shows both styles of temple architecture from the north and the south. The Gopuram and Nagara styles of architecture look beautiful.

Once you enter the temple premises, a main hall for goddess Katyani appears. There is a room that houses nine goddesses and a divine painting of the mother goddess. A holy peepal tree in the temple courtyard is where people often tie a thread to fulfill their wishes. A huge basement inside the temple complex used to feed meals to the devotees.
