Established in 1989 for the conservation of plants and animals, Ralamandal Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over 5 sq. km. It was earlier the hunting ground for the royal family members of Holkar due to its huge population of tigers, leopards, and deer. The sanctuary is blessed with the presence of the holy River Narmada, and an ancient palace built by the Holkars, which was primarily used as a hunting lodge, also known as a shikar gah, adds to its beauty.
The ancient place of Holkar has used as a hunting lodge during their time Shikargarh was constructed to hunt wildlife animals. The huge population of tigers, deer, and leopards was hunted down by royal family members of the Holkars. Covering an area of 5 square kilometers, it was established as a wildlife sanctuary in 1989 for the protection of plants and animals.
Wildlife at Ralamandal Wildlife Sanctuary
There is a number of different species that are found in the flora and fauna of Ralamandal Wildlife Sanctuary. Leopards, blue bulls, hyenas, peacocks, palm civets, and porcupines are species that can be spotted in the wildlife sanctuary. The sanctuary has several trails ideal for trekking for amateurs and professionals. The major attraction inside the sanctuary is the camel ride that is available to visitors. A special wall of 8,500 trees was created to protect the animals and birds from the sound of the nearby highway.

There are several options for accommodation and transportation available inside the sanctuary. For accommodation, there are rest houses. Visitors can hire bikes to explore the wildlife sanctuary. Self-owned two-wheelers or hired four-wheelers are allowed inside the wildlife sanctuary.

The winter season, lasting from September to March, is the ideal time to visit Ralamandal Wildlife Sanctuary. During this time, the weather is pleasant, and it is convenient to explore the sanctuary. Additionally, several birds migrate to the sanctuary during this season, making it a perfect time for birdwatchers.
