Overview and History

Balsamand Lake One of the prominent places to visit in Jodhpur is an artificial lake that is situated at Mandore on the Jodhpur-Mandore Road. Encompassing lush green gardens and a captivating palace, the splendid lake was built in 1159 AD by the Gurjara-Pratihara rulers. The lake is located just 8 km from the majestic Mehranagarh Fort and 10 km from Jodhpur Junction. 

Origins and Features of Balsamand Lake

The Gujara-Pratihara ruler had a vision to create a reservoir to supply water in the Mandore region. It has an impressive depth of 15 meters, a length of one kilometer, and a breadth of 50 meters. For centuries, the lake has successfully fulfilled its purpose. 

 Offering a visual retreat Balsamand Lake has a verdant garden that has groves of Mango, pomegranate, guava, and papaya. Creating a sense of ambiance, an artificial cascading waterfall brings water from the reservoir to the garden.

Architectural Splendor: Balsamand Palace

Near Balsamand Lake lies the Magnificent Balsamand Palace, which has grand architecture and regal charm. Made from red sandstone, it was constructed in 1936 by the Maharajas of Jodhpur to serve as the summer resort for the Maharajas of Jodhpur. Today, one of the best heritage hotels in Jodhpur features a remarkable eight-pillared structure and three magnificent gates. A taste of royal living invites visitors to experience the opulence lifestyle of the bygone area.
