One of the must-visit places in Coorg, Chelavara Falls is a breathtaking natural spectacle that falls on the Virajpet-Talacauvery road. Cascading water with serene surroundings, Chelavara Falls is also known as Embepare in the local Kodava language.
The rock formation beneath the cascading water resembles the shape of a tortoise, which further helps in naming Chelavara Falls. A small stream, which is considered a tributary of the Kaveri River, creates Chelavara Falls.Capturing the essence of tranquility and lush greenery , Chelavara falls gracefully from a height of about 150 feet into a spacious pool below.

If you visit the place in the rainy season, you will get a mesmerizing sight of verdant coffee plantations. The gushing water of Chealvara Falls sets a picturesque setting against the backdrop of lush greenery. During this time, it’s strictly discouraged to enter the water or swim due to its depth.

Situated at a distance of 43 km from Madikeri, 23 km from Virajpet, and 13 km from Kakkabe,Chelavara Falls is accessible by a motorable road. Autos can be hired at Cheyyandane. After leaving the road, you need to follow a 10-minute walk to reach the falls.
