About Horandu Annapoorneswari Temple
Positioned on the bank of the river Bhadra, Horandu Annapoorneswari Temple is a beautiful place situated in the lush forest of the western ghats in Karnataka’s Chikmagalur District.
The sacred site, also known as Sri Kshethra Horanadu Temple, is believed to have been established by the revered Agasthya Maharishi.
Mythology
The name Annapoorneswari signifies the provider of nourishment to all. It has been believed by the local folks that Lord Shiva, under a curse, found redemption through the blessing of Goddess Annapoorna.
Dedicated to Goddess Annapoorneswari, an incarnation of Goddess Durga, the temple boasts a magnificent golden idol installed in 1973. Adorned with intricate craftsmanship, the main deity stands on a peetha with four hands holding a Shanka, Chakra, Sri Chakra, and Gayathri Mantra. The temple’s sanctum, recently renovated, is surrounded by Adi Sesha, with the Padma Peetha formed by Ashtagaja, Koorma, and others. To this day, pilgrims visiting the temple are offered complimentary breakfast, lunch, and dinner.It’s worth noting that male devotees are required to remove their shirts before entering the central sanctum.
