About Chembra Peak
Rising majestically at an altitude of 2,100 meters (6,890 feet) above sea level, Chembra Peak is the highest peak in Wayanad district and one of the most sought-after trekking destinations in Kerala.
Nestled in the Western Ghats, it lies near Meppadi town, about 8 km south of Kalpetta, offering unmatched panoramic views of the lush Wayanad landscape, Kozhikode plains, Nilgiri Hills, and Malappuram valleys.
Natural Beauty and Surroundings
Chembra Peak is renowned for its verdant tea plantations, rolling grasslands, and mist-covered slopes. The trail is filled with exotic flora and offers glimpses of rare birds and butterflies.
The highlight of the trek is the heart-shaped lake (Hridaya Saras or Hridaya Thadakam), which is located midway to the summit. This natural lake, believed to never dry up, has become a symbol of love and a popular photography spot.
From the summit, trekkers are rewarded with a 360-degree view of Wayanad’s undulating hills, the blue outline of the Nilgiris, and even parts of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka on a clear day.
Trekking Experience
Difficulty: Moderate
Duration: About 3–4 hours (to reach the peak)
