The magnificent Maharaja Chhatrasal Museum stepped into the history and culture of the region. It was established in 1955 by Maharaja Chhatrasal alongside the serene Dhubela Lake. The museum has a vast collection of artifacts that span from the ancient to the modern era. The intriguing and rich past of the Bundela dynasty of Khajuraho are displayed with painting, sculpture kept in the museum.

The Chhatrasal Museum has eight galleries, each showing a different aspect of art, history, and craftsmanship of the past. It provides a deeper understanding of the Bundela dynasty’s rise, development, and decline. 

1. Inscriptions and Plates Gallery: Echoes from the Past 

The gallery showcases the glorious past of the Gupta and Kalchuri dynasties with inscriptions and plates. Tales of empires are kept alive in the relics that come alive when you visit the gallery. 

2. Sculptures Gallery: Preserving Timeless Beauty 

The sculpture gallery reflects the artistic prowess of the Chandela and Kalchurian artisans, Notable attractions are Ekmukhlinga, Suryaputra Revanta, and Gajasurvadh. The Shakti cult is represented through a diverse array of sculptures. 

3. Jain Gallery: A Tapestry of Spiritual Art 

The gallery highlights the spiritual heritage of the region. Exquisite artwork celebrating Jainism is kept in the Jain gallery. Images of Sarvatobhadrika, Gomedh Ambika, Rishabnath, and Chakreshwari serene the ambiance of the Jain Gallery. 

4. Shaiva and Shakti Galleries: A Fusion of Divine Artistry 

The gallery is a gateway of exquisite sculptures of deities like Vishnu, Shiva, and Devi. Chandela and Kalchuri’s arts serve as gateways to the Shiva and Shakti galleries. The grandeur of these dynasties is displayed with great religious and cultural fervor. 

 5. Theme-based Paintings: Brushstrokes of History 

The historical significance of the emperors of Rewa, Panna, and Charkhari is displayed to the viewer through theme-based painting. Adorning the walls of the museum, the artistic brilliance of the paintings keeps visitors engaged.

6. Amusement Gallery: Fun and Fascination 

Eight oversized convex-concave mirrors are the major attraction of the amusement gallery. Its reflections reflect amusing and distorted images, showing the lighter sided of the Maharaja Chhatrasal Museum. Bundela king’s garments, weaponry, and opulent garments are additional showcases to the visitors
