Lohani Caves is an intriguing mystery that dates back to the 11th or 12th century. The mystery revolves around the caves because no one knows their exact history. There is a dispute about who constructed the caves, and there is uncertainty because of the lack of inscriptions and carvings. Despite the dispute, the cave has been believed to be of pre-Muslim origin, particularly by the Shiva Yogis.

Architecture of Lohani Caves

During the excavation of the place, the archaeological department discovered 80 statues of Hindu goddesses, including Parvati, Shiva, Vishnu, and Lakshmi, in the storage tank. All these statues are now housed in the nearby Chappan Mahal. Lohani Caves comprise 4-5 shell-shaped rooms that are surrounded by a storage tank, which makes this place more enchanting. This storage tank cut into the rock also serves as a water source.

To the south of the caves stands a 5-meter-high monolithic pillar that is believed to have been part of one of the temples.

So if you are an avid history lover, then you should explore this place especially the sunset view above the Lohani caves
