Hathi Mahal is a remarkable structure that was initially built as a pleasure resort and was later converted into a tomb. A must-see place for anyone visiting Mandu.
Hathi Mahal resembles the legs of an elephant. The four corners have four such pillars with an additional one in the middle of each of the four sides that total add up to impressive 12 elephant leg pillars
Unlike others, the Hathi Mahal is constructed on the ground level rather than on a high plinth. It has arched openings on three sides and is crowned with a massive dome. The base of the dome is designed in an octagonal shape that, with bands, add up to its height.
In the center, an open courtyard stands with a memorial alone, with the actual grave situated in the underground room below. The entrance to the crypt below is still there, but it’s now sealed.

Situated near Darya Khan tomb, is a distance of 2 km from the Mandu bus stand in the tourist destination of Mandu, Dhar district, Madhya Pradesh
