History of Neelkanth Mahadev temple
Neelkanth Mahadev temple is an ancient Hindu shrine that is dedicated to Shiva. Built from red sandstone, the temple resembles the Islamic style more than the traditional architecture of the Hindu temple. It has a long history of construction and demolition through his history. Initially, it was built as Shiva temple was demolished by the Akbar governor for a pleasure house but fortunately, after the fall of Mughals, it was returned back to its origin when lord Shiva entered the temple again. The main sanctum of the temple is slightly above the ground and can reach through a metal ladder. A water stream flows through behind Shiva linga and collects in the water tank formed in front of the temple. To reach the temple courtyard one has to descend 60 steps where a sacred pond fed by a stream is worshipped by the pilgrims. Its believed that offering a leave inside the middle of the water labyrinth fulfill prayers.
