The Grand Canyon of India: A Spectacular Sigh
The remarkable Raneh falls through the ancient Vindhya basalt made by the majestic river. One of the oldest rock formations on earth, the Raneh waterfall derives its name from King Rane Pratap, the erstwhile ruler of the region. Marketing the edge of the Rewa plateau in Madhya Pradesh, the waterfall at the confluence of the Ken and Khuddar rivers.
The deep canyon sculpted by a Ken river is 5 km long and 30 m deep. It is composed of crystalline granite displaying an array of vibrant hues from pink and red to grey. This nature deserved the title of “The Grand Canyon of India” with a series of waterfalls both large and small which form as the rivers converge. To witness this marvel, a well-constructed platform, and towers have been constructed to have a wonderful experience.
There are many natural habitats adjacent to the Ken and Khuddar rivers, the most renowned is Ken Gharial Sanctuary. The sanctuary is home to rare species of reptile-like Gharial that share a lineage with crocodiles. Do keep in mind, the sanctuary remains closed during the monsoon season because it’s the breeding season of Gharials. However, in other seasons, the sanctuary has rich biodiversity and natural habitat for fascinating creatures.
Best time to visit Raneh Fall
The best time to visit Raneh Falls is during the months of September to November when the weather is pleasant. Entry fees are Rs 50 per person with an additional charge of Rs 75 for a guide and Rs 200 for a guide.
