About Gorumara National Park
Gorumara National Park, located in the Dooars region of Jalpaiguri district, is one of West Bengal’s most celebrated wildlife reserves. Spread over 80 square kilometers, this park is renowned for its population of the Indian one-horned rhinoceros and its rich biodiversity.
Recognized as a National Park in 1994, it has since become a major hub for eco-tourism in the eastern Himalayas.
Natural Beauty and Wildlife
The park is a mosaic of sal forests, grasslands, and riverine landscapes nourished by rivers like Murti and Jaldhaka. Apart from the iconic one-horned rhinoceros, it shelters elephants, leopards, bison, wild boars, sambar deer, and over 200 species of birds, including hornbills and peacocks.
The diverse ecosystem makes it an ideal spot for wildlife photography, jungle safaris, and birdwatching.

Visitors can experience jeep safaris and watchtower views at locations like Chukchuki Watchtower, Jatraprasad, and Chapramari, offering thrilling glimpses of wildlife in their natural habitat.
The surrounding Dooars villages also give travelers a chance to experience the region’s rural lifestyle and tribal culture.
Travel Tips
The best time to visit is between November and April, when the weather is pleasant, and animals are more easily spotted. The park remains closed during the monsoon season (June to September). Staying in nearby forest lodges or eco-resorts provides an immersive experience amidst nature.

Gorumara National Park is well-connected by road and rail. The nearest town, Lataguri, serves as the main entry point and is about 20 km from Jalpaiguri town. The closest railway station is New Mal Junction (20 km), while the nearest airport is Bagdogra (80 km), near Siliguri.
