The temple is known as Puliapura in Sanskrit and Polali in Kannada. Dating back over 2000 years, the temple holds great historical significance in the region. In ancient times, the temple deity Polali temple was revered as Porala Devi. Over the years, the temple has become a beacon of spirituality for millennia.
Architecture
Inside the temple, a 10-foot clay idol is one of the marvels adorning the Polali temple. It is one of the tallest of its kind.Adding further to the temple’s allure and sanctity, alongside the main deity are Sri Subrahmanya, Sri Ganesha, and a pantheon of other celestial beings.
Annual Festival and Polali Chendu
Polali Chendu festival adds a vibrant dimension to the Polali temple. Held in the months of February or March, the festival is held for seven days. It features a unique ritual featuring exhilarating five-day-long football matches, drawing crowds from far and wide.
