Mythology
According to legend, it is believed that Sage Suthaba performed penance here and was blessed by Vishnu. It is also said that Vishnu married Sundaravalli Thayar here, making it an auspicious site for marriage blessings.
Architecture and Features
The temple follows a dravidian architecture style that is commonly found in Tamil Nadu’s ancient temple style. It has a five-tiered Rajagopuram (main gateway tower) that is adorned with carvings of mythological figures and deities. The temple’s sanctum consists of an idol of Vadivazhagiya Nambi Perumal in a reclining posture, symbolising peace and grace. The surrounding halls and corridors feature stone pillars with detailed carvings of deities and celestial beings.
Religious Practices and Festivals
One of the most important festivals is Vaikunta Ekadashi, which is celebrated in December or January. During the festival, special prayers and rituals are performed by the devotees. Other festivals celebrated at the temple include Brahmotsavam (annual temple festival), Panguni Uthiram , and Sri Jayanti (birth anniversary of Lord Krishna).
