History of Laxmi Niwas Palace

A former residential palace, Laxmi Niwas Palace, was constructed by the King of Bikaner, Maharaja Ganga Singh,  between 1898 and 1902 CE. It was designed by the renowned architect Sir Samuel Swinton Jacob. The construction of the railway has stimulated employment in the region . 

In 1902 and 1926 CE,  the Laxmi Niwas were expanded into much of Lalgarh Palace. 

The addition of the Lalgarhgarh Palace Complex further added to the grandeur of the royal residence. 

Indo-Saracenic Architecture and Exquisite Design

In the construction of the palace, pink sandstone came from the stone quarries of Dulmera. It showcases the Indo-Saracenic architectural style that was popular in the 19th century in British India. Its symmetrical structural design adds a striking balance to the palace. 

Golden frescoes, Usta artwork,ornate ceilings, and carved frieze look captivating in the interiors of Laxmi Niwas Palace. Reflecting the beauty and opulence , it shows the artistic vision of the Maharajas. 

In the Laxmi Niwas palace , the royal family hosts several dignitaries, including viceroys, the king of Greece, King George V, Queen Mary, and renowned statesmen. The palace symbolized the wealth and prosperity commanded by a royal family in Bikaner. Laxmi Niwas Place is named after the Hindu goddess of prosperity, wealth, and beauty, Laxmi. 

Today, Laxmi Niwas Palace has undergone a transformation into a luxury hotel. It now manages and owns Triangle Fort and Palace Pvt. Ltd. Combining the charm of the bygone era with modern amenities, heritage hotels offer a truly regal experience.
