Discovering the Bijasan Mata Temple
Dedicated to Bijasen Mata, an incarnation of Goddess Durga, the temple was built in the Maratha style by Maharaja Shivajirao Holkar of Indore. It was built in 1760 and is located at the top of Tekri Hill. At the temple location, you can watch the beautiful sunset setting on the horizon. Thousands of devotees visit the temple throughout the year to pay for their offerings. Bijasen Tekri Garden in the nearby area offers a tranquil escape, and a small lake is a great spot for tourists and locals alike.
Temple architecture
Bijasan Mata Temple is a beautiful example of the amalgamation of Maratha and Rajput styles, with beautiful carvings and sculptures adorning the walls and pillars of the temple. Temple interiors are ornate, with ceilings and murals depicting scenes from Hindu mythology. To reach the temple’s main sanctorum, visitors have to climb 100 steps.
The temple complex consists of a guesthouse that was once the residence of the Holkar. It’s now converted into the Arms Museum of the Border Security Force, showcasing the collection of arms and ammunition used by them.
Fairs and Festivals
A grand fair is organised during the Navarati and Saraswati poojas. A nine-day festival is celebrated for the goddess’s victory over evil. Saraswati Pooja is dedicated to the goddess of knowledge and wisdom. During this time, it is adorned with beautiful flowers and lights to mark the occasion.
