The waterfall, at a height of approximately 800 feet and formed by the River Sita, is a vital source of significant hydroelectric projects in Karnataka. In the monsoon season, the waterfall is particularly enchanting and more dramatic with the increased water flow.
How to Reach
Barkana Falls is accessible through the Gumbo ghats in the western ghats. The falls area is about 3-4 km from Malandur village and is accessible by a muddy and steep approach road. After reaching the village, the trek starts through dense forest to reach the top of the falls. You can hire a taxi either from Agumbe or Hebri to Malandur village.
Best time to visit
Avoid visiting in monsoon season when there is an incessant downpour that makes the trek slippery and challenging. Leeches also become quite prevalent during the monsoon season. However during the monsoon season, the area becomes lush green.
If you come up with your own motorbike, then you can use a motorable path to reach Barkana Falls. An entry fee of Rs. 200 per person is charged by the forest department.
Timing
The timing is from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The breathtaking view from the Barkana View Point adds to the allure of this natural wonder in the Western Ghats.
