Renowned for its mythological significance and Bollywood connection, Ramadevara Betta is a serene hill nestled in the Ramanagara district of Karnataka. A popular destination for trekkers and nature enthusiasts , the place provides a quick one-day escape from Bangalore.
A Hindu mythological story is associated with the Ramadevara betta. According to the legend, the idol of Lord Ram was established by Sugreeva after seeking his help in defeating the Asura Sukasura.
Fort remnants
Ramdevra Fort was constructed by the founder of Bangalore, Kempegowda. While visiting the Ramadevara Betta, visitors can explore the remnants of the fort wall, which gives glimpses of the past.
Sita’s Pond
On Ramadevara Betta, there is a mysterious pond known as Sita’s Pond. The depth of the pond remains unknown, which adds an intriguing element to the hill’s allure.
The iconic movie Sholay
Ramdevra Betta gained cinematic fame when the Bollywood movie “Sholay” was shot here. The hill served as Gabbar’s hideout, and scenes and songs from the movie were filmed here.
Vulture Sanctuary
In 2013, the forest department designated the area as a vulture sanctuary. You can see the Egyptians and white-backed vultures, but their sightings are limited due to the presence of temples and visitors.
Wildlife
Ramadevara Betta’s forest is a happening place for wildlife enthusiasts. You can catch glimpses of creatures like bears, leopards, and peacocks, especially during the evening.
Trekking Experience
To reach the hill’s summit, visitors have to climb 450 steps. The journey during the trek offers a chance to immerse oneself in nature, surrounded by chirping birds and breathtaking views.

Do inform the forest department about your visit before embarking on the trek. Venturing alone is discouraged for safety reasons.
Timing
The best time to explore Ramadevara Betta is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., when there is ample sunlight.
