History of Prasanna Krishnaswamy temple
The temple’s architecture reflects the artistic finesse of a bygone era. It was built by Krishnaraja Wodeyar III in 1829. The temple carries a legacy of Lord Krishna from centuries.
Holding a symbolic butterball in hand, the central deity, Lord Krishna, looks stunning in a unique crawling pose. The temple mandapa is beautifully decorated with murals that beautifully depict the stories from Bhagavata
The temple houses 40 bronze images of various gods, goddesses, sages, and saints. The most notable among them are the figures of Krishnaraja Wodeyar and his wives.
Inside the temple, there is a separate shrine dedicated to Sage Atri. He was considered the esteemed priest of the Maharaja. He is placed along the idols of Ananthasayana,Ramanujacharya,Rajamannar and Paravasudeva
Best time to visit
The best time to visit Prasanna Krishnaswamy is during the Grand Krishna Janmashtami festival. It’s an eight-day festival where a cow procession is the major attraction.
