About Nagnath Temple
One of the most revered temples in Karwar, Nagnath temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva in his Nageshwar (Lord of Serpents) form. The temple is situated on the bank of the river Kali in Uttar Karnataka district in Karnataka State.
History and Architecture
The temple dates back several centuries and holds great significance in Hindu mythology. Associated with the Shavism tradition, the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. During Maha Shivaratri, a number of devotees visit the temple to offer prayers.
The temple is designed in traditional dravidian architecture, with Shiva lingam inside the temple believed to be in self-manifested (Swayambhu) form. Other smaller shrines dedicated to Hindu deities are kept on the temple premises. Its an ideal place to meditate in a serene and peaceful environment.
Best time to visit
The best time to visit the temple is during Maha Shivaratri and Kartika Poornima. On these occasions, a large number of devotees flock to the temple to pay their respects.
