History and Architecture of Sakleshwara Swamy temple
One of Karnataka’s oldest and most revered temples, the Sakaleswara temple, was constructed during the reign of the Hoysala empire. Its construction spanned from the 11th to the 14th centuries.
Located along the tranquil bank of the river Hemvathi, Sakleshwara temple is positioned at the town’s entrance. The colossal statue of Lord Shiva and intricate design elements leave visitors in awe. Especially the statue of lord Shiva, it evokes a sense of reverence and devotion in all that you see. The temple is a magnificent example of the region’s rich architectural heritage.
Festival
Attracting devotees and tourists from far and wide, the annual rath yatra is a highlight of the temple’s calendar. It is celebrated in the month of February or Purnima. During the festival, an atmosphere of joy and spirituality envelops the entire town.
