Beejmandal temple is a hidden gem that is located in the Khajuraho temple complex. Partially excavated, the temple is believed to be the largest shrine once fully unearthed. Its length is estimated to be 30 meters, which can surpass the famous Kandariya Mahadeva temple. Beejmandal temple is an ancient marvel that takes you on a journey to the rich history and culture of the region. 

Unearthing a Hidden Wonder 

Among the 18 unexplored mounds, the Beejamandal temple lies beneath a mound of earth for centuries. Curious local villagers guided by tradition, lit an oil lamp on this mound each night.

Cunningham and  Phanikanta Mishra identify the Beej Mandal temple as the Vaidyanath temple mentioned in the ancient Grihapati Kokala inscriptions. Architecture remnants bear testament to the temple’s dedication to lord Shiva and goddess Parvati. 

In 1999, the temple was opened to the public and shed light on a forgotten chapter of history.
