A lotus-shaped temple made of Greek-style marble, also known as the Lotus Temple, is located in Delhi. Dedicated to the Baha’i faith, it was constructed by a Canadian architect, Fariborz Sahba, in 1986. The structure took ten years to design. Built at the cost of Rs 10 million, it was constructed between 1980 and 1986 and opened to the public on January 1, 1987.
The Baha’i faith is an independent world religion that was founded by Baha’u’llah. Lotus temples represent an amalgamation of different faiths where people of different faiths can meditate in a hall.
Architecture of Lotus temple
Spread over an area of 26 acres, the Lotus Temple looks very beautiful in lotus shape. The marble for the temple was brought from Pentelit Mountain in Greece. The 27 petals, each of which is a square structure, are designed in such a way that light falls directly inside the meditation hall; you don’t need to light up the hall. Surrounded by nine doors representing the nine spiritual paths of the Bohai faith, Hall has the capacity to hold 2,500 people. It’s the perfect place for meditation and peace. The lotus shape was chosen to represent all faiths like Jainism, Buddhism, Islam, and Hinduism because, in all these faiths, the lotus holds a special place. Surrounded by beautiful gardens, fountains, and ponds, the perimeter of the temple looks beautiful. “An Outline of the Bahai Faith” is a short film about the Bahai faith.
