History
The area around it has a rich historical background. It was a fishing village of the Koli community, who continue their traditional fishing practices today. Remnants of Portuguese are visible in the local architecture around. Madh Fort, also known as Versova Fort, is a prime example of this. It was built by portuguese and later captured by the Marathas before falling into British hands. Today the fort is a major historical landmark near the beach.
