Overview
The George Everest House, located about 6 km from Gandhi Chowk in Mussoorie, is a major tourist attraction known for its secluded, peaceful environment and breathtaking views of the Himalayan peaks and the Doon Valley. Built in 1832, this historical site was the home and laboratory of Sir George Everest, the Surveyor-General of India from 1830 to 1843.

A major tourist attraction, The George Everest House is a historical site located about 6 km from Gandhi Chowk in Mussoorie. It’s the home and laboratory of Sir George Everest, who was the Surveyor-General of India from 1830 to 1843.
The house, also known as the Park estate, is situated in a peaceful environment with Himalayan peaks on one side and the Doon Valley on the other side. He purchased this house in 1833 and lived here for nearly a decade before he retired to England.
Sir George Everest’s Contribution
Sir George Everest plays an important role in completing the great Trignometrical Survey of India, extending the meridian arc from southern India to Nepal. It was in his honour that Hilary and Tenzing, who first ascended Everest, named the peak after him.
Activities and Attractions
The area around is a favourite destination for activities like camping, hiking, and adventure outings. There is a hiking trail from the George Everest House that leads to George Everest Peak. It’s an ideal trail for hiking. On the trail, the Everest Cafe is an ideal place for having refreshments while hiking up.
