History
Construction of the Dhom Dam began in 1976, and over the next year, the engineers and laborers brought the ambitious project to fruition in 1982. It was one of India’s largest civil engineering projects, and the first dam constructed on the Krishna River in Maharashtra.
The dam plays a crucial role in catering to the water needs of the region. Fueling the engine of economic growth, dams provide a consistent water supply for local industries and support the agriculture activities of farmers in Javli, Koregaon, and Khandala talauks of Satara.

Spanning an impressive length of 2.478 meters, Dhom Dam stands at a staggering 50 feet. It’s an architectural marble that commands attention. Dhoram Dam Reservoir, formed by the dam’s backwater, stretches over 20 kilometers and creates a picturesque expanse that has captivated the hearts of visitors.
Architectural Marvel
The dam boasts the capacity to generate 4 MG of electricity and has a water capacity of 14 TMC (thousand million cubic feet). It helps meet the energy needs of the area.
Offering a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. There are a number of water activity facilities at the Sahyadri Boat Club, located near the dam. The options range from water scooters to speed boats. Horseback riding and camping facilities, apart from boating, enhance the overall experience.
There are several places or villages that hold history and spirituality. Virat Nagar, also known as Dhom Village, is one such place. Apart from these, the Narasima temple on the Krishana ghat has even caught the eye of Bollywood, making it a favorite location for film shoots.
