Overview
Rajpuri Caves in Panchagahin are a historical site that has captivated the hearts and minds of visitors for generations. The site exudes an aura of mystery and devotion and is nestled amidst the serene landscape of Panchagini. Located just 7 kilometers from the Panchgani bus station, the site is easily accessible to visitors.
History and Architecture
According to legend, it was believed that Rajpuri caves were where Lord Karikeya did penance and religious observance. Among the four caves, One stands out: the cave of Lord Kartikeya.
At the heart of Rajpuri Caves lies the temple of Lord Karikeya. It is believed that the temple was constructed using sand from the very caves that house it.
The remaining caves are interconnected by a network of underground tunnels. It’s an ancient marvel that adds intrigue and mystique to the Rajpuri caves.
At the entrance of the temple, you are greeted by two traditional Nandi images. One of these stands opposite the cave’s entrance.The walls of these caves hold the echoes of his divine presence.
Several water kunds surround the caves and are believed to have curative properties, offering relief from evil and ailments. Pilgrims seeking solace and healing take a dip in these sacred waters to cleanse and rejuvenate. One of the first caves, known as the sacred Gomukh Kund, is naturally filled with water. It is believed that the water is flowing from the mouth of a mythical cow.
During the Taipooyam festival that is celebrated in the months of January or February, Rajpuri caves come alive. Thousands of devotees come from far and wide to pay homage to Lord Kartikeya and partake in the joyous festivities.
