Exploring the Stupas
If you love exploring historical places, then Andher Stupas in the Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh, India, should be on your list of places to visit. The Andheri stupas are a fascinating glimpse into the history, and culture of Buddhism and the spread of Buddhist worship in ancient India.
The Buddhist community grew, spread, and developed around Sanchi. They have developed their own stupas within a 20 km radius of Sanchi. All these communities were spiritually connected to the main stupa in Sanchi. There developed a group of stupas Bhojpur/ Murel Khurd, and Ander to the southeast, Sonari to the southwest, and Satdhara in the west.
Andher Stupas are a group of three stupas that are located on a hill near Kharod village in the Raisen district. The site offers a stunning view of the Murel Khud stupas of Bhojpur. Stupa No. 1, the largest of the three, dates back to around 150 BCE and is surrounded by a stone railing. A Brahmi script inscription is written on stupas no. 2 and no. 3 by the same monks whose relics were found in Sanchi stupas no. 2 and Sonari.
