About Kil Kileshwar Mahadev Temple
Kil Kileshwar Mahadev Temple is a famous temple that is situated 12 kilometers from Srinagar and 8 kilometers on the banks of the river Alaknanda.
The temple was built 600 years ago by a king of Tehri. Garhwal kings generally visit this temple after taking baths in the Ganges.
An interesting story is associated with the temple that starts as follows: There was an owner who was not happy with her animal because she was not producing milk. One day, he followed the cow and observed that cow offering her milk to a shiva’s stone linga.
He got angry and sliced part of the linga off the axe. A part of the linga fell into the river and produced a weird sound (kil-kil-kil) in its flight. Where the linga fell, it’s believed that Kileshwar Mahadev Temple stood.
