Kuteti Devi Temple is a famous temple that is located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand.Though constructed in old times, the temple architecture looks new.
History and Mythology
An interesting folklore is associated with the temple. Once upon a time, a maharaja of Kota (Rajasthan) was on a pilgrimage tour to Gangotri. But unfortunately, on the journey, he lost his bag of money. Unable to meet his expenses, he returned to Uttarkashi and went to Vishwanath Temple. He prayed to the priest and promised to marry his daughter to a boy who would find his lost bag.
In due course, the priest finds the bag with money intact inside the temple. Delighted by this, Raja fulfilled his promise and married his daughter to a boy chosen by the priest of Vishwanath temple.
But after marriage, she started living away from her family. She was not happy with the decision because she used to worship Kunti Devi, but now she has to live far from her god.
She started praying for Kuteti Devi with her husband. Happy with the prayers . Kuteti Devi appeared in her dreams and told her about the place in the field where she would present a stone.The next day, when Rajkumari and her husband went to the same place , they found three stones with a heavenly aroma.
Later, the Kuteti Devi temple was erected at the same spot where these were discovered.
