A hub for education and culture, Shilpgram is a rural arts and crafts complex that is spread over an area of 70 acres in Udaipur, Rajasthan. With its rich collection of traditional artifacts, an engaging workshop museum offers a captivating glimpse into the lives of the folk and tribal communities of the region. Shilpgram serves as an educational and cultural hub for the states of Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Goa. Each member state of the west zone has constructed traditional huts within Shilpgram. Huts showcase the diversity of the region with items such as metal objects, wooden items, textiles, terracotta, and decorative pieces.
Preserving Tradition: A Mosaic of Traditional Huts
At the heart of Shilpgram lies an open-air amphitheater capable of accommodating approximately 8,000 people. This magnificent venue hosts major theater festivals and showcases mesmerizing traditional folk performances. Additionally, each member state of the West Zone has constructed traditional huts within Shilpgram, showcasing the diverse heritage of the region. These huts serve as repositories of everyday items such as terracotta, textiles, wooden and metal objects, decorative pieces, and tools. Each item is thoughtfully displayed with informative signage, providing visitors with a deeper understanding of their cultural significance. Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Goa contribute to this integrated pattern with their distinct architectural styles, with five huts representing each state.
Shilpgram Festival: A Kaleidoscope of Culture
The annual Shilpgram Festival, held from December 21st to December 31st, is a highly anticipated event that attracts visitors from far and wide.
Timing and Entry fees
Shilpgram welcomes visitors from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., providing ample time to explore the various exhibits and participate in workshops. The entry fee for Indian citizens is Rs. 30, while foreigners are charged Rs. 50.
