About Gangotri Peaks
Ringing the Gangotri glacier, Gangotri peaks is a subdivision of the Garhwal Himalayas located in the northern state of Uttarakhand. It comprises of Gangotri I peak, Gangotri II peak, and Gangotri III peak, all rising more than an elevation of 6500 m. Gangotri III (6,577 m) is the tallest peaks among all, as are the other two sister peaks, Gangotri I (6672M) and Gangotri II (6590 m).
Gamgotri III is surrounded by Rudugaira Bamak Glacier on the western side and Auden’s Col Pass on the left.
The Ganga, which originates from the Gangotri glacier, is a part of Hinduism and one of the four sites in Char Dham.
Other Notable peaks in Gangotri group of peaks
Kedarnath Mountains: In the southwest direction of the Gangotri glacier, the mountains are two mountains of the Gangotri group of peaks. Kedarnath peak rises at a height of 6,904 meters and is the highest peak in south of glacier. The other peak, Kedarnath Dome, lies northeast of Kedarnath.
Shivling Peak: At an elevation of 6,543 m, Shivling Peak is a sacred mountain peak dedicated to Lord Shiva. It was earlier called Matterhorn Peak by early european visitors.
Meru peak: Lying between Thalay Sagar and Shivling Peak, Meru peak has three distinct peaks in shape of a fin. The meru peak rises to a height of 6,660 meters.
Thalay Sagar peak: Part of Gangotri mountain peak, Thalay sagar peak is the second highest peak after Kedarnath to the south of the Gangotri glacier. It rises to a height of 6,904 meters.
The famous Kedartal Lake, which is a part of Kedartal Trekking, lies at the base of the peak.
