About Saptarishi kund
Situated in the Bandarpunch mountain range, Saptarishi Kund is considered an original source or river Yamuna. At a distance of 10 km from Yamountri temple, the trek to Saptarishi kund is moderate and takes around 3-4 days to complete, depending on your fitness level.
Once you reach at the spot, the lakes in blue colour look amazing at an altitude of 4421 m.
With a diameter of half a kilometre, the lake receives a waterfall from a nearby glacier. On the banks of the lake, the natural slate stones and Brahma lotus are quite unique to see.
Mythology of Saptrishi Kund
It’s believed at Saptrishi, seven great Rishis—Kasyapa, Atri, Bharadwaj, Viswamitra, Gautama, Jamadagni, and Vasistha performed penance.
Trek to Saptrishi Kund
The route to Saptrishi Kund is difficult and requires the guidance of well trained guide. The terrain in beginning passes through forest and climbs up steady for fist half of 5 km. If someone wishes to pitch a tent, be extra careful because there is no natural campsite available.
After this, the slope of the trek rises suddenly, with landscape changing from green to white with heavy wind coming from glaciers. It’s advised not to pitch camp at Saptrishi due to heavy winds.
