The word “Kanatal” is derived from two words: “kana,” meaning a small temple, and “Tall,” meaning a lake. The famous place you can visit nearby is the Surkanda Devi Temple. Atop a hill is one of the 51 Shaktipeeths, where goddess Parvati is worshipped. It’s the place where the head of Sati fell. It takes about 2–3 hours to reach the temple via stairs.

Kodia Jungle trek

It’s located 1 km on the road towards Chamba. It takes you through a lush green forest of pines and rhododendrons. The trek covers a distance of 6 kilometers and takes around 3–4 hours.

Tehri Dam

A dam built on the confluence of Bhagirathi and Bhilangana is a perfect place to explore in nearby Kanataal. It’s at a distance of 1 hour on the Chamba-Mussoorie road.
